LEVY CENTER 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Mazel Tov!
Last Friday night (“Shabbat”), the United States Naval Academy’s Commodore Uriah P. Levy Center and Jewish Chapel celebrated its 20th anniversary!

This event recognizes the importance of faith in shaping moral and ethical leadership among Midshipmen.

An Oneg Shabbat celebration was hosted by the Naval Academy’s Friends of the Jewish  Chapel following the Shabbat Service led by Rabbi Yonina Creditor and featuring remarks from FOJC Board Members: USNA Distinguished Graduate Jerry Miller ’77, Hon Dov Zakheim (former Under Secretary of Defense – Comptroller), Maj Michael Kuiper, USNA ’06 (the first class of Jewish Midshipmen to worship in the Levy Center), and MIDN 1/C David Ross (President of the Jewish Midshipmen Club). There were wonderful reconnects with USNA alumni, faculty, our new Israeli Defense Force Navy exchange Officer, rabbis, Board Members, benefactors, and friends.

The mission of FOJC is to “… enhance the cultural and religious lives of the Jewish Midshipmen”. The Levy Center is the centerpiece of this effort that provides Jewish Midshipmen – and Midshipmen of all faiths – a location to learn about religion, histories, cultures, and traditions. The Levy Center is also the Brigade’s de facto Ethics Center, where Honor Boards convene in the Harvey Stein Honor Court and the Chaplain’s offices are located.

Stand by for an even grander 25th dedication commemoration in 2030!
